SKIING & SNOWBOARDING IN INDIA
Snow Adventure was founded with the mission to bring skiing and snowboarding into mainstream sports in India and to put Gulmarg as a destination on the global map. We have been successfully achieving that with the support of other adventure companies in Gulmarg working towards the collective objective.
Skiing & snowboarding is a famous sport, recreational activity in most parts of the globe especially in European countries, Australia, Canada & the United States of America. Many types of competitive skiing events are recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and International Ski Federation (FIS). Thousands of foreigner’s come to Gulmarg every winter from December, January, February, and March for skiing. Gulmarg has also hosted India’s National Winter Games in 1998, 2004 & 2008. This skiing resort was also proposed for holding the Common Wealth Winter Games 2010 due to the facilities available there for conducting the sports events as well as boarding & lodging facilities available at par with other ski resorts in the world.
Anees Bhatt is a professional snowboarder and the co-founder of Snow Adventure. With over 15 years of experience competing and training locally and globally, Anees has traveled through every niche and slope that Gulmarg has to offer. Be it Phase 1 or the back mountains Anees has brushed them all. Anees’s favorite moment is when he christies across the slope and is gifted with a fountain of snow all over him.
Mehraj Bhatt is a professional Skier and also the co-founder of Snow Adventure. Known for his calm demeanor and eye for detail, one can find Mehraj always investing himself in his students to excel. Mehraj has also competed in various competitions with podium finishes and needless to say has traversed every slope that Gulmarg has to offer.
ABOUT THE SKI RESORT
Beginners skier and snowboarding will have a gala time at the baby slopes to learn the basics with poma lift to take you up the slope for every run and move up to phase 1 to test those skills learned at the slopes.
For the intermediate skier, there is Phase 1, a 3km long trail through the wooded hills. This trail is usually cured with snow beaters. For learners, Gulmarg has the “baby slopes”: 3 slopes of varying difficulties, equipped with ski lifts, and dozens of instructors are available.
Advanced folks can test their skills at the more advanced slopes. Click here to see a map of the slope. Most people come to Gulmarg Ski Resort for the incredible terrain access from the Gulmarg Gondola. It is important to understand that outside the resort boundaries there is no avalanche mitigation and any rescue needs to come from your group. We highly recommend skiing Gulmarg with a professional ski guide. We work with Gulmarg’s best guides and instructors.
For advanced skiers, there are plenty of off-piste powder runs (with the risk that goes with them). 2011 saw the arrival of heli-skiing in Gulmarg. The main Alpine slopes offer great runs of 2 km or so with a stunning altitude drop of over 700m. The slopes have a gondola to the top and are called Phase 2.

Gulmarg Ski Resort like every other ski resort is a complete resort with avalanche mitigation and forecasting; first aid and rescue service; and some snow grooming. Gulmarg is an off-beat ski resort making it suitable for beginners as well as advanced skiers.
Most people come to Gulmarg Ski Resort for the incredible terrain access from the Gulmarg Gondola.
Gulmarg’s Climate is similar to the European Alps. You can expect the temperature to be around the same as a European ski resort. The only difference (and a good one) is that annual snowfall levels in Gulmarg Ski Resort are roughly double the levels of European resorts.
